NaXum Reviews 252: How One Simple Wild Idea Is Changing Referral Marketing
Posted by naxumadmin / August 22, 2022
Sometimes all it takes is one idea.
Over the last 10 years, referral marketing has evolved significantly.
The history of referral marketing can be thought of as ‘generations’ of referral marketing technology.
1st Generation:
With the advent of the web-based selling systems, the first generation of referral marketing companies created ‘links’ their promoters could share to get credit and sent their salespeople into the marketplace.
2nd Generation:
The 2nd generation companies evolved and created content members could share that would help them get customers to links. In the beginning, the content was email swipe copy, then banner ads, then social media posts, and now encompasses video marketing and more.
3rd Generation:
Today we see a 3rd generation emerging as the gig-economy pushes companies to advance even further and craft predictive mobile apps and platforms that feel like a top promoter sitting next to the newest person on the team, suggesting what to do next.
With all the technology available today, amateur referral marketers have fallen prey to the flawed idea that the technology will do everything for them and that they don’t have to do ‘real work’ to win today.
At the end of the day, referral marketing is built on people sharing products or services they care about with other people that they believe would find a benefit in those products and services.
So what one wild idea is changing everything?
Instead of focusing on closing, selling, and rank-ups as the primary motivator, companies are leveraging daily habits.
By having the members focus on daily habits for reaching out to new contacts, following up with existing conversations, sharing on social media, and watching training videos, we’re celebrating the people who can set goals and work at them, even for a little bit each day.
As referral marketing networks grow, the end result of daily habits is the sum of millions of small daily habits consistently telling your brand’s story, day in and day out, predictably growing your message.
Winning daily habits then becomes a competitive game as dashboards highlight ‘who’ in the company is on the longest streak of consistency in winning daily habits. The fun culture rewards members for showing up each day and winning their goals, no matter what level they are at.
